No they don't. Many times more people are shot be accident, or by people they know than are saved by having a loaded handgun at the ready. Check the FBI statisitics.

Geez, Judging by a lot of the "comments" (diatribes) coming from both sides of this argument, I think we all need to calm down a bit and try to understand why a reasonalbe person might have a different view from our own. Just a thought.
